We’re wrapping up the first day of Affiliate Summit East 2014 in New York City, and have had a great day visiting with many of our partners and industry friends! We kicked ASE 2014 off by checking into host hotel Marriott Marquis Times Square, where we received our ePN-sponsored key cards.
We then sat in on a few presentations, eager to hear what themes and ideas our colleagues would have on tap for the day. One panel presentation we attended was titled, “Rethinking Today’s Hot Issues Affecting Affiliate Programs,” with points of view expressed from a network, advertiser, publisher and OEM. Alan Rapoport, Director of Merchant Management for DealTaker.com (an ePN partner) served on the panel to represent the publisher viewpoint.
The first question raised by the moderator was whether coupon sites should be paid less than or equal to other affiliate business models. As one of the industry’s leading deal sites, Alan’s stance on the value of these types of websites wasn’t surprising: “Coupon sites are very valuable in driving sales,” he said. “Coupon and deal sites specialize in closing the sale and getting it done, which is valuable to everyone.”
Other issues the panel tackled included whether advertisers and networks should work with toolbar publishers, followed by a discussion on the value of various attribution models. This last topic sparked a lively audience dialogue on first click versus last click and everything in between – the moderator encouraged audience members to continue the discussion on social media channels.
Our team then spent some time mingling with old and new friends at the Meet Market before catching “Opening Remarks and Elevator Pitches,” hosted by Rachel Honoway, CEO of For Me To Coupon, another ePN publisher.
We’re looking forward to two more action-packed days in the Big Apple! How did you spend your first day at ASE 2014? Leave us a comment to share your experience, and we hope to see you as the conference continues!
