EPN TV: John Toskey on the Value of Promoting the Parts & Accessories Category on eBay

Have you visited the eBay Motors hub lately? This one-stop shop for all of your visitors’ vehicle needs includes popular car and truck parts like wheels, tires, brakes and engine components, as well as parts and accessories for motorcycles, boats, ATVs and more. In this episode of EPN TV, John Toskey talks about the popularity of eBay as a destination for parts and accessories, as well as why you should consider promoting these items to your audience.

eBay is the largest ecommerce player for this category in many major countries, including the US, Germany and the UK. This category offers great earning potential around a high-growth segment, and the EPN commission rate for Parts & Accessories is very competitive.

How often are people shopping online for vehicle parts? In the US, three parts and accessories are sold on eBay every second. Germany sees one part or accessory sold every second, and in the UK, mobile shoppers are using their smartphones to purchase one part or accessory on eBay every three seconds.

You can direct visitors to listings, search pages or the Motors landing page, which makes it easy for buyers to use eBay’s Fitment function to find parts based on their vehicle year, make and model. And with top brands like Michelin, Bosch, Goodyear as well as Ford, BMW and many more, your visitors are sure to find the specific part they need.

It pays to promote Parts & Accessories on eBay. Direct your visitors to eBay Motors and the Parts & Accessories subsection to kick your earnings into overdrive.

 

EPN TV: John Toskey on the New Bookmarklet Tool

In this episode of EPN TV, we introduce you to our bookmarklet tool, which provides a quick way to create affiliatized links directly from any eBay page. John describes how this tool was created in response to your request for simple tools that can be used without much heavy technical lifting. To access the bookmarket tool, navigate to the Campaigns tab in the Publisher Portal. Then, simply drag the icon next to a campaign to your browser’s bookmarklet folder.

The next time you’re on eBay and see a search results page, specific listing or any other landing page on eBay that would interest your visitors, just click this saved bookmarklet link to get the affiliatized link in URL, JavaScript or HTML format.

This is an easy way to quickly generate a link to share on your website or social networks, and we hope you’ll test it out and let us know what you think. Make sure to watch the video to hear John’s suggestion for making the tool even more useful.

EPN TV: John Toskey Talks Structured Data

In this episode of EPN TV, John talks about a major initiative undertaken by eBay Marketplaces to provide buyers with an even more compelling experience. While eBay has traditionally provided flexibility around seller listing requirements, we saw an opportunity to improve by layering additional structured data on top of this free-form listing data. By shifting toward cataloging items as products rather than as individual listings:

  • Search results are more relevant
  • Items are easier to find and compare
  • Product reviews can be better collected and shared
  • Deals are more obvious

In fact, early results have shown conversion rate improvements, which should translate into increased sales and commissions for you.

Because more than 80% of the items sold on eBay are new, the ability to differentiate among duplicate items has become increasingly important. For example, it would be helpful for buyers to know that multiple iPhone 6 listings are essentially selling the same product, so they can more easily find the item they want, at the best price.

Another way that this initiative should enable you to provide an improved buyer experience is that you’ll be able to deliver more pertinent and focused landing pages. This is possible because while a link that leads to an eBay listing page may expire, a link to an eBay product page could live in perpetuity. You’ll be better equipped to compare products across eBay and compared to other merchants, so you can provide your visitors with the most relevant items at the best prices.

eBay Partner Network Has a New Website

You may have noticed that eBay Partner Network has a new look, along with some new resources to help you find, share and earn from your passions. We’re making continuous updates to features and functionality, and appreciate the feedback we’ve already received from you. In this episode of EPN TV, John talks about some of the current highlights of the new site.

Here are a few of our favorite things:

Earnings Calculator

If you’ve been curious about potential earnings in categories you might not yet be promoting, check out the new earnings calculator on the homepage for a sample of what you could expect, based on average commissions on popular products. We’ve started with some of eBay’s best-selling products, and we plan to add more in the future.

Bookmarklet

When you log into the Publisher Portal, you’ll see that we’ve begun to add features to provide you with new ways to drive and optimize traffic. For example, click on Campaigns to try our new bookmarklet tool, currently in beta. It’s simple: Drag the bookmark icon from a campaign to your web browser’s bookmark folder. Then, when you find an eBay page to share, simply click the bookmark to see a popup with your affiliatized link.

Mobile-Friendly Reporting

Though it may not be apparent to the naked eye, we’ve updated the underlying system that our website is built upon. This allows us to increase stability and paves the way for the introduction of new tools and resources to improve your experience with EPN. For example, we’ve implemented a responsive design and eliminated Flash in our reporting section so you can view reports on any device, at any time.

EPN TV: John Toskey Talks Global Expansion into Australia

In this episode of EPN TV, John Toskey highlights the reasons why affiliates should jump into the Australian market. If you’re not yet thinking about the opportunities down under, now is a good time to start. Why Australia? To start, Australia has a strong economy and a sizable ecommerce market, with more than half of consumers regularly shopping online. Its residents are tech savvy, with 80% smartphone penetration. And perhaps most importantly, the eBay brand is strong: eBay is the #1 most influential retail brand, and the #2 most influential brand overall – behind only Google!

So how can you take advantage? First, make sure that you’re approved to promote the Australian market through EPN. Second, set your links and banners to geo-targeting, to make sure you’re sending your users to their relevant local site, such as eBay.com.au. Finally, dig in to see which products and brands are popular in Australia, and determine which of these might appeal to your audience.

If you’re a seller and are already blogging about your items or sharing links on social media, you could be earning eBay affiliate commissions. And if you’re not already promoting your listings this way, there’s no time like the present to start!

In this EPN TV episode, John Toskey talks about the affiliate advantages for eBay sellers, and how sellers can get up and running quickly with eBay Partner Network.

Sellers can earn EPN commissions by promoting and linking to their own items, as well as products inventoried by other sellers. For example, if you sell cameras in your eBay Store, you may also want to promote listings of complementary accessories from other sellers.
